Most 5-year-olds might look forward to their first airplane ride, but Diane was terrified. Unknown to her family, the little girl thought the airplane would blast off into the sky like a rocket—at lightning speed, with thrusters firing.
Today, as the wife of a pilot, Diane not only rides in planes but has even taken the rudder herself, once flying her family over the Thousand Islands at 3,000 feet. She is quite proud that she has never used the call signal “Mayday.”
